What is Coaching?

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
  • Coaching is an “action plan” to help individuals reach their personal and business goals. It is completely different from “counseling” or “therapy” that deals with unresolved issues and past experiences. Coaching is about moving forward with a sound action plan to reach your goals.
  • Coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in both their personal and professional lives. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life.
  • Coaching began in the 1980’s as individuals saw the need for guidance and mentoring in the lives of others, both in business practices and personal lives.
How is coaching delivered?
Cross Coaching & Wellness offers coaching via telephone in weekly 30-minute sessions or monthly 45-minute sessions.

How do the sessions work?
In each meeting, the client chooses the focus and primary needs of the conversation, while coach Kay Cross listens and contributes observations, questions, relevant educational information and homework to attain goals or make behavioral change. This weekly interaction creates clarity and moves the client into action. Coaching accelerates the client’s progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in the future. As an ICF credentialed coach, Kay recognizes that results are a matter of the client’s intentions, choices and actions, supported by her efforts and application of the coaching process.

What factors are most important in finding the right coach for you?
  • Personal rapport
  • Personal compatibility
  • Effectiveness of coaching process
  • Coach’s confidence
  • Level of coach-specific training
Why should you hire an ICF credentialed coach (Kay Cross)?

Formed in 1995, today the ICF is the leading global organization with over 16,000 members, dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high professional standards, providing independent certification, and building a network of credentialed coaches.
